New Labor ministers have big task ahead to address Australia’s chronic underprivileged and disadvantaged

“We warmly welcome the new ministers, particularly Linda Burney (Indigenous Australians), Amanda Rishworth (Social Services), Bill Shorten (NDIS), Julie Collins (Housing and Homelessness) and Mark Butler (Aged Care), who will be at the coalface as the Government confronts the persistent disadvantage that exists across all parts of the nation,” Mr Sullivan said.

“These new ministers have huge jobs, but together they have enormous capability and skills and, just as importantly, have the compassion and open hearts that can see beyond the obvious problems that have been confronting the nation for decades. “The aged-care crisis, major workforce issues, the disfunction of the NDIS, homelessness that is a national disgrace, are just a few of the immediate problems we face.

“CSSA looks forward to working with the new ministers in a spirit of cooperation and goodwill. Our members, across all parts of the social services sector and throughout Australia, bring to the table decades of work on the front line with the aged and infirmed, single parents, the poor and isolated, the underpaid and the over-worked, the disabled and the dispossessed.“We look forward to being part of a new approach to, in the words of our new Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, ensuring ‘no one is left behind’.”
