The Synodal Legacy of Pope Francis

Bishop Shane Mackinlay features in the latest episode of Common Home TV's “Questions for the Modern World” podcast series, in an episode titled, “The Road Ahead: Synodality and a Listening Church.”

Recorded before Pope Francis’ passing, this interview offers a timely reflection on Pope Francis’ synodal legacy and his vision for a Church that listens, journeys together and engages with the world.

“In our world today, we increasingly see fragmentation and polarisation, with groups and communities turning inward rather than outward, focused on their own immediate interests and often engaging in antagonistic, adversarial ways.” Bishop Mackinlay explains. “Synodality calls us to, and models, a way of learning from and being enriched by the people around us, including those who may be most different and most distant from us.”

In the Podcast, Bishop Shane answers questions about the challenges facing the Catholic Church today, synodality as an antidote to apathy, and meaningful ways to engage with people in contemporary society.

A short video, “The Synodal Legacy of Pope Francis,” accompanies the full podcast interview. This video distils Bishop Shane’s insights into a powerful summary of Pope Francis’ vision for a Church that listens, discerns, and journeys together, all in three minutes.

These releases are part of “Questions for the Modern World”, Common Home TV’s ongoing podcast series exploring how the Catholic faith can speak meaningfully to contemporary life.
