CDOS 2020 Year in Review

26 Catholic Diocese of Sandhurst Year in Review 2020 From the Seminary Corpus Christi College in Carlton is the regional seminary for the dioceses of Victoria and Tasmania, and in addition, currently hosts students from Darwin, Adelaide, and Port Pirie. The college provides an environment for students to be formed in a spirit of generous service for the church communities they will eventually be part of, learn from, and serve. Pope Francis has written much on the topic of ministry, and his vision of formation is both exciting and challenging. On one hand, he invites seminarians to live in the midst of a community; continually learning from those we meet along the way through a generous “going out” to meet people. On the other hand, however, he invites students to reflect on what these moments mean: a deep listening and openness to the presence of the Holy Spirit, calling us in the midst of our daily lives and challenging us to see Jesus in our midst from new perspectives. One of the great “challenges” yet “blessings” of 2020 was that much of this learning moved from the traditional setting of the seminary and surrounds to places beyond. In 2020 students were invited to relocate to home and parish communities throughout the periods of lockdown. This provided a great opportunity for the college community to adapt, learn and support each other in new ways. On behalf of the Sandhurst students and wider seminary community, we thank the many communities in our diocese for their wonderful hospitality, prayerful support, and practical help in so many ways throughout 2020.
