Year in Review 2022 Catholic Diocese of Sandhurst 29 REV. JAKE MUDGE Coordinator of Seminarians Corpus Christi College Like so many, the College was thankful this year for a return to classes, pastoral work and travel, following the unpredictable schedule of the previous years. In March, the College community travelled to Bendigo to join Jackson Saunders, his family and friends, and the wider Diocese for the celebration of his ordination. It was a great occasion, and the College community enjoyed travelling to support Jackson and his family on such a significant occasion. Earlier this year, Adonis Pena decided to return home to be with his family and was very thankful for his time with the Diocese. “Don”, as he is known by many, was an active visitor to many parishes in the Diocese, and was a popular presence during his time in Australia. Dominic Manatad is spending some time reconnecting with family and friends in the Philippines. He has been in touch with many from the Diocese and sent his Christmas and New Year greetings to all at the end of 2022. In the second half of 2022, Ezekiel Hangan completed Clinical Pastoral Education in Wangaratta. Based in the parish and local health settings, Ezekiel gained qualifications in this specialised training for ministry, which is often a prerequisite for those working in various chaplaincy roles. In May this year, the College welcomed two seminarians from the Philippines, Jhunel Mendez and Jonard Cosmo. Both were able to join in the seminary programme and life of the College. Jhunel has applied to join the Diocese of Sandhurst as a seminarian and plans to arrive in Australia in early 2023. In November 2022, the Trustees of the College appointed a new Rector, Fr Cameron Forbes. Fr Cameron, a priest of the Archdiocese of Melbourne, replaces Fr Denis Stanley who served for six years in this position. 2023 will be a significant year for the College, as it prepares to celebrate its Centenary. Since its inception in 1923, the College has existed in four locations – Werribee, Glen Waverley, Clayton, and Carlton. On behalf of the College community, we would like to thank the Diocese for their continued interest, support and prayers – they are very much appreciated! We wish everyone God’s blessing for 2023.
