36 Catholic Diocese of Sandhurst Year in Review 2022 Catholic Education Sandhurst MACKILLOP ART AWARDS The Cover of the 2022 Year in Review features ‘The World in Our Hands’ the artwork which Bishop Shane Mackinlay personally chose as the winner of the Bishop’s Choice Award (Senior) from entries in Catholic Education Sandhurst’s 2022 MacKillop Art Awards. Bishop Shane chose ‘Welcome’ as the winner of the Bishop’s Choice Award (Primary). The Bishop’s Choice Award was presented for the first time in 2022 in recognition of the connection between Bishop Shane Mackinlay and the Sandhurst education community which he serves. Bishop Shane acknowledges the importance of celebrating, affirming, and supporting the students of Sandhurst in their creative endeavours and the award highlights the value of The Arts in the life of the church. ‘Welcome’ Coloured pencil and marker on paper by Harrison Williams, Year 5 from St Joseph’s Primary School, Chiltern. Artist statement; “I can welcome the people of Ukraine into Australia as part of sharing the Good News.” Harrison Williams. Bishop Shane Mackinlay said of Harrisons work “We have all been deeply moved by the suffering of the Ukrainian people since their country was invaded. This work of art thoughtfully reflects on the practical needs of the Ukrainian people, and the way we can share Jesus’ good news by welcoming them,” WELCOME
