Year in Review 2022 Catholic Diocese of Sandhurst 37 On the Cover ‘The World in Our Hands’ mono Print combined with a Relief of Lino Print By Shaye Couch, Year 10, Catherine McAuley College, Bendigo Winner of the Bishops’ Choice (Secondary) Award, MacKillop Art Awards 2022 Responding to the passage: “For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace, the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees THE WORLD IN OUR HANDS of the field shall clap their hands.” [Isaiah 55:12] Artist statement; “I focused on the connection to nature. This revealed my idea to connect the human with the world on which they lived. I wanted to show the connection we have with nature. I wanted to show this by loosely drawing the hands using a mono printing technique, then overlaying the tree using the Lino Relief print,” Shaye Couch. “Pope Francis has been a powerful voice calling us to recognise that we are deeply connected to all parts of creation, and to commit ourselves to concrete actions that help this integral ecology to flourish. This work of art beautifully illustrates our connection to nature and our responsibility to care for it, responding to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor.” Bishop Shane Mackinlay
