Year in Review 2023 Catholic Diocese of Sandhurst 47 Fr Steve Bohan IN MEMORIAM Fr Steve Bohan is remembered as a man of deep religious faith and deep convictions; an exceptional leader who “went the extra mile to help people” and “threw himself into the local community”. Fr Stephen Thomas Bohan 5 July 1948 ~ 22 August 2023 Fr Steve Bohan returned to God less than two months after retiring as Parish Priest of Yarrawonga on his 75th birthday, in the 50th year of his ministry as a priest. Fr Steve is remembered as a man of deep religious faith and deep convictions; an exceptional leader who “went the extra mile to help people” and “threw himself into the local community”. A keen sportsman and historian who had a knack for “opening-up” scripture so his parishioners could see its relevance in their lives. Fr Steve was the third of four sons born to Margaret and Frank, was uncle to ten and grand-uncle of 25. Born and raised in Benalla he was educated at St Joseph’s, Benalla, FCJ College, Benalla and Champagnat College, Wangaratta. In 1967 Fr Steve entered the seminary at Werribee and was ordained a Priest at St Joseph’s, Benalla in 1974. He served as a priest in Rushworth, St Kilian’s Bendigo, Wodonga and Yarrawonga, where he served for a total of 23 years. Fr Steve also spent four years as priest in charge of seminarians at Corpus Christi College and spent two years studying in the United States of America.
