Praying with Pope Francis for Our Common Home

21 God of All Good Gi fts, when we think about the kind of world we are leaving to future generations, may we look at thin gs diff erently: May we realise the world is a g ift which we have freely received and must share with others. Challenge us to realise we can no longer use it as if everything is geared to our individual ben efi t. Remind us that care for future generations is not optional, but rather a basic question of justice, since the world we have received also belongs to those who will follow us. Th e environment is on loan to us, and we must hand it on to the next. Amen. Based on Pope Francis’, “On Care for Our Common Home,” Laudato Si, paragraph 159 God of Fidelity and Trust, you have entrusted this fragile world to human care and we have learned that unlimited material progress is impossible. Help us to devise intelligent ways of directing, developing and limiting our power. Help us to exercise our freedom and responsibility to protect and develop this world’s potential. Amen. Based on Pope Francis’, “On Care for Our Common Home,” Laudato Si, paragraph 78 God of Courage, do not let us be discouraged. Ben efi ts brought by o ur eff orts to change the world may be unknown to us. O ur eff orts to do good call forth more goodness which can spread, unseen. Give us courage to continue trying to mak e a diff erence. Amen. Based on Pope Francis’, “On Care for Our Common Home,” Laudato Si, paragraph 212 The Common Good, Justice and the Future
