23 God of the Future, when we ask what kind of world we want to leave behind for children who are now growing up, help us to think of its general direction, its meaning and its values. Help us to struggle with these deeper issues, facing them courageously, so that our concern for ecology will produce sig nific ant results. May we ask and pray about these important questions: What is the purpose of our life in this world? Why are we here? What is the goal of our work and all o ur eff orts? What need does the earth have of us? God of Hope, help us to hand on an inhabitable planet to future generations, as it is up to us, and these issues and questions are linked with the ultimate meaning of our earthly sojourn. Amen.
