Bishops’ Assistants join to
share Skills and Ideas
B
ishops’ personal assistants from the four Victorian dioceses met in Sandhurst in September
for their biannual conference to discuss matters of common concern across the dioceses.
The meeting was held at the Chancery for the personal assistants of the Bishops of Ballarat,
Sale and Sandhurst, as well as the Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Melbourne. Djurdja
Klaric (Ballarat), Cathy Dougan (Sale), Margaret Watson (Sandhurst), Alina Tsakonas and
Josie Hatton (Melbourne) meet each six months.
In September, the Diocese of Sandhurst hosted the meeting and the agenda included forms and
databases, visas for overseas priests and seminarians, and administration of systems such as
the Australian Catholic Ministry Register. Procedures were discussed and suggestions shared.
“We each enjoy the challenges of our positions and were pleased to share information to assist
us in helping our Bishops and clergy,” they said.
The day ended with a tour of the Sacred Heart Cathedral and a date was set for the next meeting
in the Archdiocese of Melbourne in May 2017.
