New kindergarten for St Joseph’s Nagambie


Mr Paul Desmond, Chief Executive Officer of Sandhurst Catholic Early Childhood Education and Care Limited (SCECE&C Ltd), welcomes the announcement of a $1.8 million grant from the Victorian Government to establish a new Early Learning Centre at St Joseph’s School in Nagambie.

BishopLes 125Bishop Leslie Tomlinson, Bishop Emeritus of Sandhurst, celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving on 21 August 2022 at St Gregory the Great Church in Doncaster.  Surrounded by family and friends, he said he was humbled to think of all of the love and support which had been a constant over his fifty years of priesthood.  
 
“To love God and to love God’s people is at the very centre of a priest’s existence. To live that out in prayer and service, is the way that priests make sense of their life and find meaning.”

The Document for the Continental Stage, which is drawing content provided in national syntheses from around the world, as well as contributions from Eastern Churches, religious institutes, lay movements and other groups, has recently been published.

Fr Vin Walsh: A Local Product

Father Vin Walsh celebrated his 50th Jubilee on 20 May this year.  Greg Walsh shares a reflection which Fr Vin wrote for the Easter 2020 edition of Parish Talk, the Wodonga Parish newsletter.  As you will read, Fr Vin suggests he is a vessel for God’s work, a local working in the vineyard of our Lord.

Fr Des Welladsen 50 years of Priesthood

Fr Des Welladsen says he can take you back to the seat where he was sitting at Mass one day when he felt an overwhelming feeling that he needed to give priesthood a serious go.  “I had this very strong feeling that I just had to have a go,” he said.   

On his calling to the priesthood Fr Des said, “I guess there was always something rumbling in there; I had an uncle who was a Redemptorist priest, but initially confidence was an issue I think.”

St Monica’s Celebration of the Arts

Students at St Monica’s Primary School in Kangaroo Flat were proud to show their families the fruits of their hard work over the course of their integrated inquiry lessons at a “Celebration of the Arts” gala event to launch the students’ art exhibition, complete with the fanfare of a recital from the school’s instrumental students.

New facilities for Borinya Wangaratta

The official Opening and Blessing of the new Learning Centre at Borinya Wangaratta Community Partnership took place in Wangaratta on Thursday 27 October.
 
Aboriginal Elder, Uncle Dozer performed the Welcome to Country and Bishop Shane Mackinlay blessed and opened the new facilities. The Chair of the Advisory Council, Danny O'Donoghue spoke about the rich history of Borinya school which commenced in 2009.

The Sacred Heart Cathedral bells heralded the return of hundreds of pilgrims to the Marian Festival after a three-year hiatus due to COVID-19 restrictions. The large group of pilgrims included members of the Indian, Burmese, Filipino, Italian, Maltese and Croatian communities from Melbourne and across Victoria, as well as local supporters.

Catholic education has welcomed the Albanese Government’s first budget and commitments to additional university teaching places, early childhood education and student wellbeing. National Catholic education acting executive director. Sally Egan said the government’s first budget has focused on a number of critical areas for education.

The Federal Budget highlighted the Government’s values by making it clear that low-income and disadvantaged people will not be left behind as the community faces enormous economic and structural budget challenges. 
 
Chair of Catholic Social Services Australia, Francis Sullivan, said today that the Budget was more of a scene setter than a road map.
 
“The additional $560 million in funding for housing, domestic violence and Indigenous services is an indicator of the Government’s commitment to the sector.
