Catholic Earthcare invites you to Convocation

Catholic Earthcare is a place and platform where the many, diverse voices within our church community come together, in dialogue, to help and co-create our shared future. In 2020 Convocation will be presented online throughout September.

If you’re an eco-warrior, a faith-inspired young person, a theologian interested in the spheres of our world across which sustainability operates, or simply want to answer Catholic Earthcare’s call to action – to care for creation, there is a session for you. Including:-
• ‘formation’  sessions look at the theological and moral imperative to care for our common home;
• ‘foundation’ explores the financial, economic, political and social spheres which influence our common home; and
• ‘action’ explores the transformative ways in which we can realise the need to care for creation.
Catholic Earthcare was incorporated into Caritas Australia in 2018 to create synergies between agencies that service the ‘cry of the poor’ and ‘cry of the earth’.  As Chair of the Caritas National Council, Bishop Vincent Tran, Bishop of Parramatta is the Bishop responsible also for Catholic Earthcare Australia.

Note: The Season of Creation is an annual ecumenical celebration of prayer and action to protect our common home, taking place from 1 September – the World Day of Prayer for Creation to 4 October – the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

This year’s event takes place within the context of the special Laudato Si Anniversary Year, which Pope Francis opened on Sunday, 24 May, the 5th anniversary of his encyclical. The context for this year is “the precarious state of ‘Our Common Home’”, with Pope Francis asking, “What kind of world do we want to leave those who come after us, to children who are now growing up?”

Catholic Earthcare Australia is an agency of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference and is the environmental arm of the Catholic Church in Australia. This executive agency of the Bishops' Commission for Justice and Development is mandated with the mission of advising, supporting and assisting the BCJD in responding to Pope John Paul II's call to "stimulate and sustain the ecological conversion" throughout the Catholic church in Australia and beyond.
