Bishop celebrates Mass at the parish of his Baptism

In his welcome to Bishop Shane, Fr Tony Doran, the Parish Priest of Strathmore, said that early in his time at Strathmore, as he was going through the Baptismal Register looking for something else, he came across Bishop Shane's baptism registration.
The Mass was also a signficant occasion for Bishop Shane's parents, Helen and Malcom, who were present at the Mass─because they were married at St Vincent de Paul, because it was Helen's parish at the time.

At the beginning of the Mass, as a remembrance of both his own baptism and the baptism of everyone in the assembly, Bishop Shane blessed holy water and then sprinkled the congregation with it. The blessing of water took place at the font where Bishop Shane was baptised almost 57 years ago.

In his homily, recalling his own baptism, Bishop Shane spoke about the communities which call us and form us, referencing the First Reading of the Mass (1 Kings 19:16. 19-21).  At the end of Mass, Fr Tony presented Bishop Shane and his parents with a copy of his baptismal certificate.
