Thomas Heywood will offer the next recital in the GOMS recital series at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bendigo.

Tom’s exciting programme will include:

• Walton's Orb and Sceptre – Coronation March (1953);
  
  
• Parry's Bridal March and Finale from ‘The Birds’;
  
  
• Handel's Minuet from the Opera ‘Berenice’;
  
  
• Guilmant's March upon a Theme of Handel; and,
  
  
• a special performance of Light Cavalry Overture by Franz von Suppé (1819-1895), trans. Thomas Heywood (b.1974). Transcribed for, and performed at, the 150th Anniversary Concert for the Melbourne Town Hall Grand Organ.

Sung Evening Prayer 4.30 - 5.00 p.m.

Sung Evening Prayer of the Church will follow and all are invited. 

Based on the early Jewish and Christian traditions of praying at the beginning, middle and end of the day, Evening Prayer (formerly called Vespers and conducted in Latin) is part of the Catholic Church’s Liturgy of the Hours or Divine Office (from the Latin, officium, meaning “duty”) which forms part of the ministry of many priests and religious.

Since the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965), the Liturgy of the Hours has increasingly been celebrated communally in the vernacular in larger churches and Cathedrals as the prayer of the whole Church – including clergy, religious and laity. The prayer comprises short responses, psalms, canticles, scripture readings and intercessory prayers and is a tangible way for Christians across the traditions to sanctify the day through prayers of praise, thanksgiving and intercession to God, particularly given the important needs of the world at the present time.

As this is prayer, there is no entry fee.
