Parishioners of St Liborius’, Eaglehawk celebrated All Saints’ Day at St Augustine’s Church, Myers Flat; many dressed as a saint or something scary. After Mass, festivities continued outside with a barbeque and campfire complete with marshmallows.
All Saints' Day is a solemn holy day of the Catholic Church celebrated annually on 1 November. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. It should not be confused with All Souls' Day, which is observed on 2 November, and is dedicated to those who have died and not yet reached heaven.
Among those who are in heaven, All Saints’ Day particularly honours and calls to mind the thousands of men and women from all walks of life who the Church has formally declared to be saints (canonised), recognising their heroic charity and faith, and holding them up as extraordinary examples of Christian living and powerful intercessors before the throne of God.
The parishioners of St Liborius’ Parish, Eaglehawk celebrated the feast by gathering for Mass at St Augustine’s Church, Myers Flat, the oldest functioning Church in the Sandhurst Diocese (consecrated in 1864). The Mass was followed by a barbeque and campfire in the beautiful bush setting where there was toasting of marshmallows and a costume contest. Children (and adults) were invited to dress in scary or saintly costumes, and there was a variety of creative entrants. Prizes were awarded and all attending had a wonderful time.
Thank you to the community planning group and all the parishioners for making this event so successful and enjoyable!
