Celebration of St Mary's Parish Echuca as part of the Diocesan 150th Anniversary
by Fr Novelito Lim PP.
On 15 December 2024, St Mary’s Parish, Echuca, joyfully celebrated its parish-level contribution to the Diocesan 150th Anniversary. As one of the Diocese's foundational churches, this momentous occasion was marked with a solemn Mass at 9:30 a.m., celebrated by the Most Rev. Shane Mackinlay. During the celebration, Bishop Shane opened the Jubilee Door, symbolising a new chapter in our shared spiritual journey.
This event also officially launched our parish’s 150th anniversary celebrations, which will culminate in May 2025. Established in 1875, St Mary’s Parish has been a cornerstone of faith, community and service for generations.
As the Parish Priest, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Bishop Shane for gracing this special occasion with his presence and leadership. This celebration reflects our rich history and is an opportunity to honour all those who have contributed to making St Mary’s Parish the vibrant and welcoming community it is today.
We remember with deep gratitude the Augustinian Fathers, Diocesan priests, and the Brigidine Sisters who laid the spiritual and pastoral foundation of our parish. We also honour all parishioners, past and present, whose faith, dedication and sacrifices have built and sustained our parish over the past 150 years.
As we look forward to our official anniversary celebrations in May 2025, let this milestone remind us of the enduring legacy of faith that binds us together and calls us to continue our mission of service and love in the years to come.
