Meet Sandy, the Diocese of Sandhurst’s very own Mascot for Jubilee 2025. Sandy and her lively friends, Goldie the sulphur-crested cockatoo and Macky the galah are set to bring a sense of fun and connection to the Jubilee Year in our local Church.
Just like the global church’s “Luce” and friends, Sandy and her feathered friends are more than just friendly faces; they are part of a larger effort to engage the community and inspire prayer, pilgrimage and action in this important time of reflection and celebration.
Sandy’s name, of course, is a nod to the Diocese of Sandhurst. Macky, the galah, is named in honour of Australia’s first saint, Mary of the Cross MacKillop, our Bishop, Shane Mackinlay, and all the “Mcs” and “Macs” who have contributed to the Diocese’s rich history. Goldie, the sulphur-crested cockatoo, represents the gold that has been so important in shaping the region, both physical gold which has drawn people to the area – and the metaphorical “gold” – the faithful people who have built and now continue to make the Diocese shine with warmth and generosity.
Much like the Vatican's Luce and friends, Sandy and her friends share the same mission of connection and joy. They aim to bring a local flavour to this universal call to renewal, bringing people closer to the spirit of the Jubilee in a relatable way.
Stay tuned for Sandy and her friends as they embark on their mission to spread the good news and inspire us to be Pilgrims of Hope in our Diocese, encouraging believers and seekers alike to rediscover their faith and renew their connection to God.
