Marist Brass is celebrating a strong result after achieving second place in the D Grade section at the 2025 Australian National Band Championships, held over the Easter weekend in Melbourne, after returning to the National Contest for the first time since 2018.
Competing in a talented field of community bands from across the country, Marist Brass delivered confident and polished performances that earned them well-deserved recognition from the adjudicators.
Marist Brass President John O’Connor said the band was thrilled with the result and the overall experience of taking part in the Championships. “The band played really well, and we were very happy with how we performed,” Mr O’Connor said. “It was a great opportunity for us to come together, share in our love of music, and enjoy the atmosphere of such a well-run national event. We had a fantastic time.”
The band’s achievement highlights the growth and strength of Marist Brass, with members showing great commitment and passion both on and off the stage, including nine of the players attending Nationals for the first time.

As the band looks ahead, Marist Brass is now welcoming new players to join the ensemble. Whether you’re a seasoned musician or someone looking to return to playing, the band encourages anyone interested to get involved. Looking to build on the momentum of this year’s success, Marist Brass has also confirmed it will be attending the 2026 Australian National Band Championships, to be held in Brisbane. “We’re excited about what lies ahead and we’d love to see new faces join the team,” Mr O’Connor added. “It’s a great time to get involved with Marist Brass.”
