Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH) School in Elmore recently celebrated the Feast of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (7 May) with a special surprise guest. Father Jules Chevalier, MSC, founder of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Issoudun, France on August 30, 1874, made a symbolic appearance – looking remarkable for his 201 years! (Please look closely at the photo!)
Feast Day celebrations began with a shared lunch in the Chevalier Centre, bringing together students and OLSH associates, followed by a beautiful liturgy led by the students. A heartfelt video message from students at OLSH Bentleigh, who visited last year for the 150th anniversary celebrations, added a touching connection to the wider OLSH community. The students enjoyed heart-shaped cakes with 'French Flags', which added to the ceremony.
We remember and honour all the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart who have lived and laboured in Elmore and beyond, since 1929.
Did you know?
The Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart (OLSH) is an international religious congregation. The OLSH Order is the Sister Order to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC). The OLSH Sisters arrived in Australia in 1885, establishing themselves in Sydney before expanding to other parts of the country.
The OLSH Sisters' spirituality is centred on the love of God and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Their spirituality and mission are best expressed in the motto given to them by Fr Jules Chevalier back in 1874, “May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be Everywhere Loved.”
