Caritas Storm 125The Pacific region is facing a perfect storm of climate change induced disasters and skyrocketing debt burdens, according to a new report.  The report calls for international governments, including the Australian Government, to take the lead on climate debt in the Pacific and ensure that money gets into the hands of those who need it most, through restructuring debt, improving climate finance and funding the Pacific Resilience Facility.

During Dementia Month, all Australians are challenged to think differently about dementia. Dementia is complex and poses different challenges for every individual and their families as it progresses.

Sister Marie Céline Nolan fcJ RIP

Ssr Celine 125Marie CÉLINE fcJ, a dearly loved member of the Faithful Companions of Jesus, died peacefully on 26 August 2022 at St Catherine’s Aged Care Balwyn. Sr Céline was in the 84th year of her life and in the 64th year of her religious profession. Born in Wangaratta, Sr Céline was a dedicated teacher, nurse, and pastoral carer. She worked in Benalla as a Pastoral Minister from 2007 until August 2021.

Knights Commemorate 100 Years of Local Service

Saturday 10 September:  Members and friends gathered to commemorate the centenary of the Bendigo Branch of the Order of the Knights of the Southern Cross .  Mass celebrated at St Kilian’s Church was followed by lunch where members who have served with the Knights for fifty and even sixty years were formally acknowledged.   State Council Members, and members from Kerang, Wangaratta and Yarrawonga joined the celebrations and members were especially pleased that many of the wives of deceased members also attended.

St Mary's Echuca Parish Festival A Great Success

On Friday evening, 26 August St Mary’s Echuca celebrated the many gifts and talents of their parishioners at their recent Parish Festival.
 
The Festival was the culmination of the Parish Stewardship Promotion and was aimed at bringing community together and exploring new possibilities, especially as we rebuild after recent year.

Yarrawonga welcomes Fr Onyirioha

Fr Henry Onyirioha, who is visiting from the Diocese of Enugu in Nigeria, says he already feels at home in Yarrawonga. “The people here have been very warm and welcoming,” he said.  He commenced his 10-week appointment at Yarrawonga on 3 September, celebrating the vigil Mass within hours of arrival.  His first introduction to the Parish was a week earlier on a day visit when he concelebrated Mass with Fr Mike Morley, before he had met anyone in the parish.

Monsignor Frank Marriott truly invested

On 7 September, Monsignor Frank Marriott attended an investiture ceremony for the Queen’s Birthday Honours, where he received a Medal for the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to the Catholic Church.  For Monsignor Marriott, the significance of the award is that the Catholic Church and priests in particular, can be recognised outside of the Church, for their contribution, not only to their own parishes, but also as a positive influence in broader Australian society.
