Mother Anthony Nehra 125The Roswell Poor Clare community has joyfully given thanks for Sr Mary Anthony's 60 years of profession as a Poor Clare Colettine. It has been over a year since Sr Mary Anthony, (known to many in Sandhurst as Mother Anthony) and Sr Clare, left Australia to join the Poor Clares at the Monastery of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Roswell New Mexico.

As winter starts to bite, qualified disability support workers are being asked to join a national ‘Winter Relief Workforce’ register designed to cover potential workforce shortages, Chair of Catholic Social Services Australia, Francis Sullivan said today.
“The sector faces major workforce challenges as it is but, with winter illnesses and support workers leaving the sector, the pressure is really on,” Mr Sullivan said.

Caritas Afghanistan 125The magnitude 6.1 earthquake which hit Afghanistan and Pakistan, in June has caused over 1,000 deaths and a further 1,600 injuries.  The earthquake has proved to be the deadliest in two decades, further devastating a population already struggling with a devastating food crisis from the combined impacts of long-term drought and hunger, COVID-19 and decades of political instability.  
 
“This latest tragedy is truly heartbreaking for a populace that has already gone through so much,” says Aloysius Canete, Caritas Australia’s Humanitarian Emergencies Lead.

Archbishop Costelloe 125Archbishop Timothy Costelloe SDB has officially taken over the presidency of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference, two months after being elected to the post.  The bishops agreed to delay the handover of the role until after the second assembly of the Fifth Plenary Council of Australia, for which Archbishop Costelloe served as President for more than four years.
